BIO

Krista Villatoro (She/Her) media artist, is interested in the interaction between disabled bodies and the constructed environment. Her artistic exploration grapples with the complex history of bodily difference while also seeking to position her own form within the realm of the emerging digital landscape. Shaped by her experiences in collegiate wheelchair tennis, Villatoro’s creative journey is profoundly influenced by her fascination with the performative aspects of disabled bodies, as well as an appreciation—or maybe even reverence—for the athletic expression, culture, and aesthetics of the sport of tennis.

Her practice encompasses a wide array of mediums including electronics, sculpture, film, games, and photography, all converging to investigate the crossroads of her identity encompassing womanhood, queerness, and disability.

Villatoro is currently completing her MFA in Design Media Arts at UCLA.
